It’s been a week of sharing and coming together. Sharing information, sharing our secrets, sharing ourselves with our loved ones, our community, and, to some extent, the world. We came together as a community on our social media as we posted photos, links, and helpful resources for people to learn and see what BFRBs are all about. We came together in real life at events and for awareness walks.

October 1st to 7th, Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviour Awareness Week, gives us a week of opportunity to blitz social media and our lives with information about BFRBs. The community really comes alive.

But now what?

Do we return to silence on October 8?

No.

Being in our own scarred skin with patchy hair and bitten nails doesn’t go away for the rest of the year. Speaking, writing, sharing, and educating about BFRBs is a year-round thing. Allow BFRB week to act as a catalyst and allow you to become more comfortable with ourselves overall.

I encourage you to carry on beyond BFRB week.

Share information about BFRBs on Twitter. Add a photo frame to your Facebook profile picture. Post a photo to Instagram with a sign raising awareness. Wear a BFRB ribbon in your everyday life.

Or simply be unafraid of showing your scars, hair, or nails. Stop hiding and start living beyond BFRB week.

Be bold. Be brave. Be honest.

The community is still here. We’ve still got your back.
